Nadi dosha cancellation: the rules nobody shows you

Nadi is the heaviest koota in the 36-guna match: 8 points, all-or-nothing. Same nadi, zero points — and because there are only three nadis, one in three couples lands there. What the scary websites reliably omit is the next paragraph of the same classical tradition: the cancellation rules.

What nadi dosha is

Each of the 27 nakshatras belongs to one of three nadis — Aadi, Madhya, Antya — a classification the tradition links to constitution, health and progeny. When both partners' moon nakshatras share a nadi, the koota scores 0 of 8, and the total drops by nearly a quarter of the whole scale in one stroke.

The classical cancellations

The most widely accepted rules are precise, not vague. First: same nakshatra, different rashi — if both moons occupy the same nakshatra but their padas place them in different signs, the dosha is traditionally void. Second: same rashi, different nakshatra — same moon sign but different birth stars likewise cancels. Several lineages add further exceptions — same nakshatra with different padas, specific nakshatra lists, and strong graha maitri — which is exactly why a low score deserves a reading rather than a refund-of-hope.

Why calculators hide this

A cancelled nadi dosha restores 8 points. On a scale of 36, that routinely moves a match from "failed" to "accepted" — and an accepted match sells no remedies. In our own sweep of all 11,664 nakshatra-pada combinations, 5.2% of nadi dosha cases cancel under just the two strict rules above. Our full data study has the numbers.

If you've been told you have nadi dosha

Check three things before any fear: whether your padas put the two moons in the same rashi or the same nakshatra across rashis; whether the rest of the match is strong (a 26 with nadi dosha is not a 12); and whether the person warning you profits from your worry. Then, if questions remain, have both full charts read by someone whose first instinct is the seventh house, not the shop.

Check your own charts — free, honestly

Everything above is general. Your answer lives in two specific charts. Our free matching tool computes both with a real ephemeris, scores all eight kootas, and shows the cancellations instead of hiding them. One minute, no fear-selling, no gemstone pitch — by written policy.
