💍 Marriage · before anyone panics

Your guna score is low. Here's the honest checklist.

The score came back 14, or 11, and someone in the family WhatsApp group has already forwarded a remedy advertisement. Stop. Nearly a third of all possible pairings score below 18 — the classical texts knew this, which is why their instruction is a closer reading, not a cancellation of the wedding. Four steps, in order.

1. Check the cancellations

Find where the points went. If nadi (8) or bhakoot (7) show zero, check their cancellation rules first — same-nakshatra/same-rashi conditions for nadi, same-lord for bhakoot. A single cancelled dosha can lift an 11 to a 19 and change the traditional verdict outright. Calculators that skip cancellations fail matches the tradition itself would accept.

2. Read the breakdown, not the total

A 15 built from small losses everywhere (varna, vashya, half of tara, a gana step) is a mild pairing with no red flags. A 15 that lost both heavyweight kootas is a different conversation. The koota table is the reading; the total is its shadow.

3. Take it to the full charts

The guna count compares two moons. Marriage runs on more: both seventh houses and their lords, Venus and Jupiter's condition, current and coming dashas, manglik status on both sides. Classical practice treats a weak guna count with strong seventh houses as workable — and says so. This is the reading worth paying for, if you pay for anything.

4. Audit the messenger

Whoever delivered the low score: what did they say next? If it was "here is where the points went and here is what cancels" — trust them. If it was a price — for a gemstone, a ritual bundled with fear, an urgent remedy — you have learned about the seller, not the match. The texts prescribe understanding. They nowhere prescribe an invoice.
